 Floyd County is overrun with recreational opportunities!

Here’s a list of resources and venues to help your family find more ways to be physically active.

Please note that this list is for families to use when identifying what is happening in our community.  It is not an endorsement of any one business or activity but a list of some of our community’s resources.   


WALKING, HIKING & BIRD WATCHING BIRD TRAILS – the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries has three Birding and Wildlife Trails. The Mountain Phase was the second trail developed and features 34 loops for you to explore. Find out more; BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY –approximately 40 miles of this Virginia treasure is in Floyd County.

BUFFALO MOUNTAIN NATURAL AREA PRESERVE – the Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation call this “one of the most significant natural areas in Virginia“. natual_area_preserves/buffalo.shtml

FLOYD ECO VILLAGE – Walking trails, camping and activities, 745-4434

HERITAGE PATHWAYS OF FLOYD – new concrete pedestrian trail; first phase. Begins across from Warren G. Lineberry Park, Town of Floyd

WARREN G LINEBERRY MEMORIAL PARK – located near the center of town and open 8 – dark daily it is also the home to events throughout the year.

FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS – school playgrounds as open to the public after school hours.

FLOYD COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION – Organized teams for youth and adults; for the Youth, T-Ball, Softball, Baseball, Basketball, Co-ed Flag Football, Tackle Football, Wrestling, Co-ed Volleyball, and Aerobics and for the Adults, Aerobics, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball, and Senior Olympics. Other programs that are offered to the public are Hunter Safety Course, Health Clinics, Basketball Clinics, Coaches Clinics, Soccer Clinics and Self Defense Class. THE WELLSPRING ORGANIZATION – Monthly wellness seminars held at Jessie Peterman Library – 745-7370

COOPERATIVE EXTENSION – A variety of hands on classes offered to share skills and tips. Includes Suppers Made Simple, Home Canning, Master Food Volunteers and Junior Master Food Volunteers training and a variety of other food and meal preparation topics. Call 745-9307 for more information.

FOR WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN (WIC) FAMILIES -The Floyd County Health Department has a garden that provides fresh vegetables and gardening skills to WIC families. The garden is open for from March to October on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9am to noon or by appointment. No gardening experience is necessary and children are encouraged to join their parents in the fun!
