Here’s a list of resources and venues to help your family find more ways to be physically active.

Please note that this list is for families to use when identifying what is happening in our community.  It is not an endorsement of any one business or activity but a list of some of our community’s resources.   

FREE ACTIVITIES IN THE COMMUNITY

WALKING, HIKING & BIRD WATCHING BIRD TRAILS – the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries has three Birding and Wildlife Trails. The Mountain Phase was the second trail developed and features 34 loops for you to explore. WARREN G LINEBERRY MEMORIAL PARK – located near the center of town and open 8 – dark daily it is also the home to events throughout the year.

FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS – school playgrounds as open to the public after school hours.

RUNNING

FOR WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN (WIC) FAMILIES -The Floyd County Health Department has a garden that provides fresh vegetables and gardening skills to WIC families. The garden is open for from March to October on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9am to noon or by appointment. No gardening experience is necessary and children are encouraged to join their parents in the fun!
